╒══════════════════════ Designing Forms for Use With PFM ════════════════════╕
│ Put 'Merge Keys' in your form where you want PFM to print database info. │
│ &name &title &company &salutation &street &city │
│ &message &comment &phone &date │
│ │
│ You may put 2 or more Merge Keys on a line. But, some of PFM's database │
│ fields allow up to 42 characters (eg., Name, Title, Company, etc.). Two │
│ of these biggies on an 80-character line may cause strange results. │
│ │
│ Put Auto-Edit fields wherever you want to enter NUMBERS ONLY or ANY TEXT. │
│ 'Numbers Only' includes 0-9, and space, period, comma and dollar sign -- .,$ │
│ * The width of Auto-edit fields tell PFD/PFM how many characters to allow. │
│ * For example, .N.. allows 1-4 numbers, .T..... allows 1-7 characters. │
│ * The minumum width of an A-E field is 2, but you can enter just 1 charac- │
│ ter in this field. The maximum is 80--the most you can edit at one time.│
╞═════════════════════════════ Running PFM ═══════════════════════════╡
│ You can run PFM in 2 ways. At the DOS prompt type either: │
│ PFM PFM creates/uses MailCall.DAT and MailCall.IDX (the default) │
│ │
│ PFM FileName PFM will create/use 'FileName.DAT' & 'FileName.IDX.' (+ ver.) │
╞═════════════════════════════ Main Menu Options ═══════════════════════════╡
│ PFM's Main Menu options include: │
│ │
│ [A]dd Name [B]rowse [S]earch [P]rint Form [U]tility [R]un PFD [Q]uit │
│ │
│ Brackets -'[]'- indicate what you should press (A to Add a Name for example) │
│ Note you can [R]un PFD to edit your forms or create new ones. │
╞════════════════════════════ Printing a Form ═══════════════════════════╡
│ When you ask to print a form, PFM asks you for it's name. It then displays │
│ a window like this, giving you printing options. │
│ ┌──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐ │
│ │Print How? ┌───┐ Left Margin? ┌───┐ Lines per Page? ┌───┐ │ │
│ │ [P]review/Edit │ ░ │ Enter number of │ ░ │ 0=End of Form │ ░ │ │ │
│ │ └───┘ spaces (0-9) to └───┘ └───┘ │ │
│ │ [N]on-Stop indent text │ │
│ └──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘ │
│ If your form has Auto-Edit fields, press [P]review. To add a left margin, │
│ enter the # of spaces (1-9) to indent. Normally press <cr> for lines/page. │
╞════════════════════════════ Editing a Form ═══════════════════════════╡
│ To edit a form, choose [P]review/Edit at the menu above. PFM displays your │
│ form, replacing merge keys with database info. It pauses and displays: │
│ │
│ Cursor keys [Ctrl-F9] [Alt-F] [P]rint [N]on-Stop [S]kip [Q]uit │
│ │
│ Cursor Keys Browse through your form [Ctrl-F9] Calculate formulas │
│ [Alt-F] Fill out Auto-Edit fields [P]rint Print your form │
│ [N]on-Stop Non-Stop printing of Range [S]kip Skip this/go to next│
│ │
│ Press [Alt-F] to jump to the 1st Auto-Edit (A-E) phrase, letting you edit it.│
│ * Press <cr> or Down cursor to move to the next A-E phrase. │
│ - <cr> moves across a row to the next A-E phrase on that row, if any. │
│ - Down cursor moves down a row, skipping other A-E phrases on lines. │
│ Press [S]kip if you asked to print a range of names, and are done with this │
│ one and want to move on, -or- you want to skip (not print) the one you see. │
